Child Crisis Stabilization Unit
Heartland Youth Village’s Child Crisis Stabilization Unit (CCSU) is an 8 bed alternative to inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. HYV’s CCSU is available to children ages 8-17 who reside within a one-hundred-mile radius of Bardstown, Kentucky. Any exceptions are to the discretion of the CEO and Program Director/Therapist.
Services Offered for CCSU Psychiatric medical assessment, crisis assessment, support and Intervention, Individual, group and family counseling, discharge planning to include crisis prevention and referral to appropriate recovery/aftercare resources.

A staff member will conduct a crisis screening to ensure individual meets criteria. If the individual meets criteria an assessment will be scheduled with a therapist.
Admission Criteria
- Acute crisis symptoms related to and DSM Mental Health diagnosis
- The individual or family demonstrate impairment in judgement, impulse control, or cognitive ability to manage the presenting crisis
- The individual’s current symptoms are too severe to remain in the home or a lower level of care at the time, nor are they of the severity to warrant acute psychiatric hospitalization
- The individual is medically stable
- The individual can reasonably be expected to benefit from admission and can independently perform all daily living activities (hygiene, meals, etc.)
- Must have a clear plan of residence or placement upon stabilization/discharge
Exclusionary Criteria
- Intense suicidal homicidal ideation that require acute care hospitalization
- Serious criminal charges
- Sexual perpetrator behaviors
- In need of housing services only
- Medically fragile and any condition that requires medical observation and treatment
Discharge Criteria
- Individual has regained baseline level of functioning
- There is a clear path and referral for continuing services to either a higher or lower level of care
- If returning to home, the family is agreeable that the crisis has subsided
Information that May be requested from Referring Party
- Health History
- Psychosocial History
- Most recent Psychiatric Evaluation
- Copy of Medical card, Insurance information, etc.
- Referral from an outside source must be accompanied by a signed agreement to provide transportation and resumption of care immediately upon discharge

- Medication in prescribed bottles
- Custody papers (if required)
- Clothing for 5 days
- School books

- Hoodies, draw strings
- Shoe Laces
- Any sprays, aerosols
